Red Willow
kji-koqmu’si
The Red Willow is a small tree that grows up to 6 meters tall. It typically grows along riverbanks and in other areas with high soil moisture. Its bark is ridged and greyish, while its twigs are reddish and flexible when young. The leaves are 7.6 to 10.2 centimeters long, taper to a point, and are shiny green on top with a dull whitish-green underside. Mi’kmaq people use Red Willow in ceremonies, for medicine, and in basket weaving.
